Kitchen Design Plans

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

Kitchen design plans take on so many roles in modem times that it is sometimes easy to lose sight of its primary purpose. The starting point when creating kitchen design ideas for the dedicated cook has to be the equipment. Whereas many kitchen designs may have only a basic oven or microwave, the true cook will undoubtedly be seeking altogether more specialized kitchen appliances.

Cooking, it should be remembered, is a physically tiring process and everything possible should be done with your kitchen design plans to minimize unnecessary work, travel around the kitchen and wear and tear on the cook. The layout of the working cook’s kitchen design is unlikely to have units simply ringing the room. A central island or “peninsular” unit is a most important factor in the reduction of kitchen traffic. A mobile unit on castors is also a useful addition to kitchen equipment.

In the serious cook’s home kitchen design, storage may well be without doors and open to the elements – quick and easy access obviously being priority. To ensure that the vast array of exposed equipment and worktop space is kept impeccably clean and does not become covered with a fine film of grease resulting from the cooking vapors, a heavy-duty ventilation system is essential. When planning your storage requirements into your kitchen design plans, do not forget to allow a slot for cooking books.

The surfaces within the efficient modern kitchen design will be chosen for their robustness and ease of maintenance. Stainless steel is a favorite work surface and, as well as being tough, easy to dean and hygienic – it can look extremely smart in modern and contemporary kitchens. One of my favorite kitchen plans for the busy cook is to set a cutting board into the worktop as a permanent fixture – so much easier than having to seek out a loose one from within a cupboard.

For walls and ceilings, a paint finish that will stand up well in humid conditions (seek individual manufacturers’ advice) is likely to be your first choice in your kitchen design ideas. Dark colors are rarely seen in a kitchen but, with the right artificial lighting, this style of kitchen makeovers can provide a stunning background to complement your food. The area between wall and base units is generally faced with ceramic tiles – a good finish that can also provide an opportunity for decoration.

Any hard wearing floorings would be suitable for busy kitchen designs, but do take care that the surface beneath the floor covering is well prepared in the first place. Any faults in the under-floor will soon show through and with time the flooring will wear unevenly.

When we think of the chef’s kitchen plans, the most likely image is of a very modem, streamlined room devoid of any decoration or charm. But there really is no reason why the kitchen interior design for a country kitchen, centered around an old-fashioned range, should not serve the same purpose so long as certain essentials are in place: namely, good working appliances, plenty of clear work surfaces and masses of accessible storage.

Here you will see a vast array of equipment and appliances rarely displayed in a domestic supplier’s showroom and you can seek out advice from the professionals.
